In fall of 2018, the middle and high school Sunday school youth decided they wanted to make a difference by putting solar panels on Atonement’s roof. They did research and collected bids from three different solar companies, presented to the church council, and then raised the entire cost with the generous contributions of the congregation and a $15,000 grant from Boulder County PACE (Partners For Clean Environment). They were passionate about this exciting project because it greatly reduces our church’s carbon footprint.
- Now Atonement has 84 solar panels on the roof with a capacity of 29.4kW.
- Each year, our solar PV system will prevent 34 tons of carbon dioxide – that’s the weight of 6 asian elephants – from being released into the atmosphere!
- We also expect to save about $85,000 in electricity costs over the life of the system, which we can put toward other ministries.
